Crucial Hi-Speed USB 7-in-1 Card Reader
review by David, 26 October 2003

If you're a regular user of flash memory storage solutions, whether you own a digital camera, a PDA, PocketPC or otherwise, you might sometimes find it rather irritating to have to connect your big-boy's-toy to the PC and start up the required software just to access the data on the flash memory cards used in the devices. If you usually download the images straight from your digital camera, you'll find your batteries running flat pretty frequently. On the other hand, if you have a flash memory card reader, all you would need to do is pop the flash memory card into the reader, open up explorer and access your files. This saves on battery use as well, as accessing data from the camera sucks up precious battery power if the camera isn't connected to an external power source.

Crucial is a company well known for it's memory solutions. Being a division of Micron, Crucial produces memory modules using Micron chips among others. Crucial's product line also happens to include CompactFlash (CF) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) solutions. To complement that segment of their line, Crucial introduced their own line of stationary and portable flash memory card readers. Sometime ago, we took a look at their 6-in-1 portable card reader solution. Now, we take a look at an upgraded version, the Crucial Hi-Speed USB 7-in-1 Card Reader. With support for USB 2.0 transfer speeds, you will no longer have to wait for all your files to transfer over from your flash media.
